Nigerian hopes of having a first Grammy Award winner has been dashed once more after Afrobeat singer and songwriter, Burna Boy lose his award category to female legendary singer Angelique Kidjo.
Burna Boy’s album ‘African Giant’ had been nominated for the Best World Music Album alongside Altin Gün for Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley for What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet for Fanm D’Ayiti, and Angelique Kidjo for Celia.
However, the Nigerian singer could not secure top spot with Angelique Kidjo securing her fourth win in the category and fourth GRAMMY win overall.
Burna Boy joins the list of some notable Nigeria artiste like King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, and Babatunde Olatunji, to have been nominated for the the prestigious award
but none brought it home.
Nigerians will be hoping celebrity singers like Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and some host of others will dish out hit tracks and album that will be nominated for next year edition of the award show.
