A dead baby has reportedly been found in a toilet on board a plane after its mother gave birth during a flight.
Staff onboard the AirAsia India plane made the discovery as they prepared for landing today. All female passengers were questioned by police after the jet arrived at New Delhi in northern India and the mother, said to be underage, was arrested. The infant was found with toilet paper in its mouth, according to local reports.
Police are investigating whether the baby was stillborn. AirAsia is the first foreign airline to set up a subsidiary in India. The budget carrier is a joint venture between Malaysia’s AirAsia Berhad and Indian conglomerate Tata Sons. A spokesman for AirAsia said: ‘The matter has been reported to Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, (DGCA) and the airline’s staff are attending to other guests and cooperating with Delhi Police. ‘We will be assisting in the investigation and cooperating with all concerned agencies.’
