I have told anyone who cares to listen that the one thing Julianna Olayode (Toyo Baby) needs is a very good manager who understands how the entertainment industry works.
She’s a great actress, very awesome one, but, that’s just about it. Someone should please tell her that the industry is way more than that. There are many great actors and actresses who are even better than her but would never get to where she currently is.
For her to make it in the industry, she needs to have a well-crafted image strategically managed. She needs to be able to stand out, and not just by posting on Instagram, no. We should see her at events, she should grace red carpets. The industry is about connections. She needs a manager that will be able to pull stunts for her. She should not be deceived by her Instagram handle. The fact that she gets so many likes is not enough to help her career.
She needs the services of a professional Manager. This job is totally different from the role of a Father or a Mentor or a Guide. Her Manager will work on crafting an image for her which her fans will fall in love with. The Manager will work on making sure her pictures appears on blogs, her face gets airtime, she is photographed with other stars. This is real work. If she’s interested in making something out of her career, she needs to take it seriously.
Has she heard of the concept called ’15 minutes of fame’. This refers to making use of your little time in the limelight, as fame doesn’t last forever. She needs to strategically plan her social life. After the Jenifa’s Diary experience, many of us fell in love with her. I saw it as a beginning of greatness for her. I really want her to do so well.
And yes, launching a book is a very wrong decision. Didn’t she learn anything from the Tope Makinwa debacle. People don’t want to hear your personal story. Trust me, some things are better kept to yourself. At least for now. Maybe when you’re now 50years old, you can publish a tell-all book. For now, keep pushing your trade. This is the worst PR strategy. It doesn’t work. Don’t publish a book about yourself until you’ve been able to grow enough respect for yourself. And most times, this comes with age.
For example, imagine if Ebenezer Obey wrote a book about himself, and then compare it to if Davido wrote a book about himself. Lemme leave it here.
Toyo should understand that public love is fickle and if not managed well, could turn into hatred. She can ask Efe of Big Brother. Few months back, he was a national hero, they even organized rallies for him. Now, he has lost 90% of that love.
The entertainment industry is not something that you stumble into. And even if you stumbled into it, you don’t continue in your stumbling. It requires strategy, PR, and strong management to make things happen.
Toyo is a great actress. She deserves more.
